I stayed in Alice Springs in the Red Centre for 4 days in 2017 as a solo traveller. Central Australia is a huge outback region in the Northern Territory, centred on the town of Alice Springs. Also known as the Red Centre, it's most famous site is Uluru, or Ayers Rock, a massive rock monolith and sacred Aboriginal site.

Haven Backpacker Resort Hostel

I stayed at the Haven Backpacker Resort Hostel, Alice Springs, in a female only dorm room for 4 nights. Staying in the hostel was a great way to make friends with other female solo travellers.

Alice Springs

Alice Springs is in the heart of Australia and is a must see destination for anyone visiting the country. A thriving, spirited outback centre, Alice Springs is as famous for the personality of its locals and contemporary and traditional art as the natural wonders, including the stunning Larapinta Trail and the MacDonnell Ranges, which surround it.

Alice Springs Desert Park

Whilst staying in Alice Springs, I took a visit to the Alice Springs Desert Park. Here I spotted native Australian wildlife such as emu, dingos and red kangaroo.

Alice Springs Camel Tour

One of the tours I booked during my stay was the Alice Springs Camel Tour. Camels were introduced to Australia in the 19th Century. They seem to have established themselves as part of the tourist industry now in Northern Australia.

Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) National Park

Uluru and Kata Tjuta are two major landmarks within the Red Centre and are sacred Aboriginal sites. Uluru is also the most famous landmark of Australia. I decided to take the Ayers Rock Day Trip from Alice Springs Including Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Sunset BBQ Dinner. The tour was long but definitely worth it! I got to explore the foot of The Olgas and Uluru. We later had a wonderful sunset BBQ dinner with a view of Uluru to finish.

Goodbye Red Centre!
