Majorca and Menorca are two of the three hottest sisters in Europe, along with their hard partying, hippy sister - Ibiza! Majorca and Menorca are the more family orientated of the Balearic Island sisters, but equally beautiful! I visited Menorca in 2015, and Majorca in 2019, and both visits were for family holidays.

Menorca

Menorca (also called Minorca) is a small island in the Balearic Islands that is barely 700 km2. Designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1993, the island is renowned for it's beaches, picturesque landscapes and megalithic stone monuments.

Hotel Valentin Son Bou

Located on Menorca's south coast, Hotel Valentin Son Bou is set on a hill overlooking the beautiful Son Bou Beach. We stayed at the Hotel Valentin for 7 nights.

Son Bou

Son Bou is the biggest beach on Menorca, and appeals to everyone from families on one side, to the nudists/naturists on the other! I was a little shocked when I first spotted a lady walking naked on the beach!

Coastal Horse Ride

One of the best ways to see the Menorca countryside and coastline is on horse back.

Mahon

Mahon, or Maó, is the capital of the Spanish island of Menorca. It’s known for its British-style Georgian houses and sheltered harbor. Mahon is home to the Xoriguer Gin Distillery.

Ciutadella

Ciutadella is a port city on the west coast of Menorca, and is known for it's old quarter and medieval streets.

Naveta d'Es Tudons

The Naveta d'Es Tudons, or Naveta of Es Tudons, is the most remarkable megalithic chamber tomb in the Balearic island of Menorca, Spain. The Naveta des Tudons, a perfectly preserved funerary monument dating back to 1200 BC, is the oldest building on the European continent.

Festival of Sant Llorenç

The festivity dedicated to Sant Llorenç began at the Binixems hermitage just after 1301. It remained almost the same until 1832/1833, when it was decided to relocate the celebration to the town of Alaior. The Sant Llorenç fiestas take place the weekend after the 10th of August, and are centered around the beautiful dancing horses.

What I missed out on....

Unfortunately, I didn't get to see everything I wanted in Menorca. If I get to visit Menorca again, I would like to stay at the Melia Cala Galdana, visit Binibeca Vell and Cova d'en Xoroi.

Meliá Cala Galdana

The stylish Melia Cala Galdana has a superb beachfront setting, overlooking one of the most beautiful beaches on the island.

Binibeca Vell

Binibeca Vell is a beautiful, whitewashed fisherman's village next to a small harbour

Cova d'en Xoroi

Sa Cova d'en Xoroi is in the south coast resort

of Cala en Porter. Cova d’en Xoroi used to be a prehistoric dwelling which has been made into a stunning bar and nightclub.

Majorca

Mallorca, the largest of Spain's Balearic Islands, sparkles with a stunning coastline, impressive limestone cliffs, and Mediterannean charm. We stayed in Majorca for 7 nights.

Valledemossa

Valldemossa is one of the most visited and emblematic places in Majorca.

Port de Sóller

Port de Sóller is a very charming seaport, surrounded by the high mountains of the mountain range Tramuntana. Port de Sóller is connected to Sóller by tram.

Sóller

Sóller is considered to be one of the most attractive towns in Spain. Just stroll through its historic centre and you will immediately travel back in time.

Cala d'Or

Cala d'Or is a charming and relaxed resort with several coved beaches, a marina, and a wealth of chic bars, restaurants, boutiques and shops. I really enjoyed spending the day in Cala d'Or.

Cala Gran

Located on the southeastern coast of Majorca, Cala Gran is a hidden gem! Cala Gran biggest of Cala d'Or's beaches and one of the most beautiful in the whole of Majorca.

Son Marroig

Son Marroig is a traditional country estate - or 'posesió' - in the northwest of Majorca. It was the former residence of the Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria, who fell in love with the region's stunning natural landscape.

What I missed out on....

Unfortunately, I didn't get to see all I wanted in Majorca either. If I get to visit Majorca again, I would like to stay at the Ikos Porto Petro, Finca Serena and The Lodge. I would also like to visit Cala Figuera, Puro Beach Club, The Gran Cafe and Restaurant Cassai in Ses Salines, the Cassai Beach House, and the ciry of Palma.

Ikos Porto Petro

Ikos Porto Petro is located on the sun-soaked southeast coast of Majorca, overlooking crystal clear Mediterranean waters. The coastline is dotted with secluded bays including Caló de Sa Torre and the stunning Cala d'Or three miles away. Porto Petro is a short distance away where you can admire bobbing yachts in the marina and colourful shuttered houses.

Finca Serena

Nestled in the heart of Mallorca, the Finca Serena hotel offers breathtaking views of the countryside and complete serenity.

The Lodge

The Lodge is a 5* refuge of luxury and wellbeing located in the Tramuntana Mountains. The sister property of the successful hotel Finca Serena, The Lodge Mallorca is a former farm turned boutique hotel, surrounded by lavender fields and olive trees.

Cala Figuera

Cala Figuera is a perfect bay on the island's southeast coast.

Puro Beach Club

Puro Beach Club is the ultimate spot where trendy people gather to socialize.

The Gran Cafe and Restaurant Cassai in Ses Salines

The Gran Café and Restaurant Cassai is located in a Mallorcan mansion in Ses Salines, a charming village in the south of Majorca.

Cassai Beach House

Stylish and situated right by the sea, Cassai Beach House is a relaxed place to enjoy tasty modern Mediterranean cuisine.

Palma

Palma is a resort city and capital of the Spanish island of Majorca. The massive Santa María cathedral, a Gothic landmark begun in the 13th century, overlooks the Bay of Palma. The adjacent Almudaina is a Moorish-style Arab fortress converted to a royal residence. West of the city, hilltop Bellver Castle is a medieval fortress with a distinctive circular shape.

Until next time!
