There are so many beautiful places to visit in the world, and Sorrento is most definitely one of them! I have visited Sorrento twice in my lifetime, once in 1996 with family, and again in 2014 for a good friend's wedding. Sorrento is famous for its delicious food, stunning scenery, and limoncello liqueur.

Piazza Tasso and the Old Town

Piazza Tasso is a bustling main square and is considered to be the heart of Sorrento. Piazza Tasso is regarded as the entry point to the historic old town of Sorrento. Sorrento old town is full of charming little cafes, shops, churches, galleries and boutiques.

Vallone dei Mulini

One of the most interesting things to photograph in Sorrento was the Vallone dei Mulini. The Vallone dei Mulini is a lush valley featuring the ruins of an ancient sawmill located in the heart of the city.

Chiostro di San Francesco

The Chiostro di San Francesco is a tranquil, greenery-filled 14th-century monastery which now hosts concerts, weddings and other activities.

Past Holiday to Sorrento

I visited Sorrento with family in 1996. We stayed at the Hotel President, which was a lovely hotel overlooking the bay of Naples. We visited some of the most well known attractions such as Capri and Pompeii.

Pompeii

Pompeii

Pompeii was an ancient city located near the city of Naples in the Campania region of Italy. When Mount Vesuvius erupted in AD 79, this city was buried under 4 to 6 meters of pumice and volcanic ash. This allowed the buildings and monuments of the city to be preserved to a great extent and gave a peek into Roman life. I have visited Pompeii on two occasions. On my most recent trip, we took the train from Sorrento to Pompeii. We were pleasantly surprised by the musicians who provided entertainment during the journey.

Capri

Capri is one of the most beautiful and captivating of the Italian islands. We took the ferry from Sorrento over to Capri for a day trip. The glitzy island is filled with dramatic scenery, designer boutiques and luxury hotels.

A Wedding in Sorrento

It was an honour to not only attend my friend's wedding, but also be one of the bridesmaids! The wedding ceremony took place at Villa Fondi. It was such a beautiful day.

Foreigner's Club

We spent the majority of our evenings together at the Foreigner's Club. The Foreigner's Club is a charming rooftop cocktail bar in Sorrento, offering fabulous cocktails, excellent service and stunning views across the Gulf of Naples.

Amateur Modelling for Ste Walker Photography

I did some amateur modelling for a boudoir shoot whilst in Sorrento.

Religious Wall Shrines

An interesting feature of the town to look out for whilst visiting Sorrento are the religious wall shrines which are dotted throughout the town.

Marina Grande

One of my favourite areas of Sorrento is Marina Grande. Marina Grande is a small traditional fishing port that sits underneath the limestone cliffs on which the old town of Sorrento is perched.

Marina Piccola

Marina Piccola is one of the ports in the city of Sorrento, dedicated at one time to the fishermen then transformed into a larger marina. The most popular clubs can be found at Marina Piccola.

Inlaid Wood

The art of handmade inlaid wood work is an old and noble Italian tradition typical of Southern Italy, especially the Sorrento area. I purchased a music box and a wall plaque of a horse on my first trip to Sorrento. Unfortunately, I threw my music box away after decorating my bedroom as a teen!

What I missed out on....

If I were to take a another trip to the Amalfi Coast, I would like to visit Positano, La Scogliera Beach Club and stay at the Hotel Santa Caterina.

Positano

Positano is a cliffside village on southern Italy's Amalfi Coast. It's a well-known holiday destination with a pebble beachfront and steep, narrow streets lined with boutiques and cafes.

Hotel Santa Caterina

Offering breathtaking views of the Amalfi Coast, Hotel Santa Caterina is an Art Nouveau villa built on a rock that overlooks the sea.

La Scogliera Beach Club Positano

Beating the crowds at Positano's gorgeous beaches is not an easy feat. La Scogliera is a beach club that provides a bougie solution to that problem.
